Sixteen wards sit in Hastings Borough and three in Rother District, so two different garden bin schemes apply. Hastings charges £85 a year and Rother charges £86 for a first bin. Which scheme you join depends on the ward.

  • Hastings Borough: £85 for 12 months, starting when your brown bin arrives. Payment is by Direct Debit only, and renewals are taken on or around the 1st of the month.
  • Hastings collects on bank holidays too, but bags or boxes left beside the bin stay behind.
  • Put the bin out from 7am, or 6am on The Ridge and Bexhill Road.
  • Rother wards (Rye, Winchelsea, Camber, Fairlight): £86 for the first bin and £70 for each extra, up to three bins. The 2026/27 period ends on 14 July 2027.

  • Slots are usually 30 minutes and open up to two weeks ahead, or call 0345 60 80 194.
  • Bring the booking reference and ID showing you pay Council Tax to an East Sussex district.
  • Non-residents pay £8.75 a visit.
  • Vans may only come on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and never at 3,500 kg or above.
  • A landscaping van carrying garden waste is turned away as a work van.4 9
